MONTREAL, May 27, 2024 /CNW/ – Rodeo FX, Framestore, Cinesite and several key players in Quebec’s visual effects and animation industry are inviting media representatives to a press conference this Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Society for Arts and Technology, to denounce recent decisions by the Quebec government that are jeopardizing this vital segment of the creative sector.
Quebec has positioned itself as one of three global hubs for special effects and animation production. In its 2024–2025 Budget, however, the Quebec government announced a 65% cap on eligible expenditures, representing a significant cut of 28% for international clients of Quebec’s industry. This cut goes into effect on May 31, 2024.
Several representatives of the visual effects and animation industry will be on hand to make a strong call to action and speak out on the devastating economic impact that this measure will have on the industry, and on Quebec society as a whole.
There will be a Q&A period for media at the end of the press conference.
