2024 Custom Ink Employee Swag Survey Finds Branded Gifts Increase Retention, Positive Feelings About Employer, Sense of Connection to Team

FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Custom Ink, the online leader in custom apparel, accessories, and other swag for organizations, groups, and communities, today released new survey results showing that employees who regularly receive swag (i.e. gifts with a company logo, such as custom t-shirts or custom water bottles) are far more satisfied with their jobs and more likely to stay with their company longer.

According to the 2024 Employee Swag Survey, 94% of employees who receive swag at least once a month at work say they are “very satisfied” with their current employer, in comparison to 33% of employees who received swag less than once a year and just 18% of employees whose companies never gave them swag. Swag also proved a powerful retention tool with 93% of employees saying they would be more likely to stay with their companies another year if they received a favorite piece of swag.

“The power of custom swag is truly amazing,” said David Doctorow, CEO of Custom Ink. “Every company wants to increase the feeling of connection and belonging among its employees, and our research found that one of the best ways of fostering that team connection is through branded gifts. In addition to building a team connection, the right swag will also strengthen retention and help ensure employees feel more satisfied in their jobs. By making swag a regular part of employee recognition and corporate events, forward-thinking companies can build a stronger, happier, and more cohesive team.”

Among other findings of the 2024 Custom Ink Swag Survey:

Employees overwhelmingly said swag would increase retention, with 93% saying they would be more likely to stay with their employer for another year if they received the right piece of swag.A similar percentage (88%) of employees said they felt more positive about their company after receiving a favorite piece of swag.A large majority of employees (92%) said wearing company swag increased their feeling of connection and community to their team.More than two-thirds of employees (70%) said they receive swag from their employer at least once a year, with one in five (22%) saying they get such items from their employer every month. Those monthly swag recipients reported the highest job satisfaction by far, with 94% saying they are “very satisfied” with their current employer. One in four employees said their favorite swag item was apparel (t-shirts 13% and hoodies/jackets 12%). Other popular items included backpacks (7%), drink containers (travel coffee cups 7%, mugs/glasses 5%, and water bottles 5%), and tote bags (5%).By a four-to-one margin (81% to 19%), employees would rather receive a piece of swag that they love and use to celebrate a team success over a happy hour or meal with their team.

Surprisingly, retention increased regardless of the employee’s current satisfaction level with their employer, as even 81% of dissatisfied employees said a preferred piece of swag would make them more likely to stay.

The survey was conducted among 1,064 US adults who work for companies with more than 50 employees via SurveyMonkey from August 30-31, 2024. Based on a confidence interval of 95 percent, the margin of error for the survey is +/- 3 percent. The full survey results are available on the Custom Ink website at https://blog.customink.com/company-swag-survey-results/.

CHICAGO, Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Noted National Engineering Author Jayshree Seth Shares Life Lessons from a Career in STEM at Society of Women Engineers Annual Meeting in Chicago
(ChicagoOctober 24, 2024) – Nationally known author, TEDx speaker and 3M Chief Science Advocate Jayshree Seth, Ph.D. was in Chicago today sharing life lessons from her new book with fellow engineers at the Society of Women Engineers Annual Meeting.

The book, “The Heart of the Science: Engineering Blueprint,” covers a wide range of STEM-related topics in four main sections and is the last in the SWE published trilogy with Seth, which includes “The Heart of Science: Engineering Fine Print,” and “The Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints and Imprints.” The book provides guidance to those in STEM or those considering a career in STEM.

The interactive format of the book provides an immersive experience for the reader with each chapter addressing practical topics, real-life application of the topic from Seth’s career, infographics providing a visual representation of the chapter, and a workbook for the reader to apply the lessons learned in their life. The book serves as the reader’s personal mentoring session with Seth.

In her introduction to her latest book, Seth sets forth her intention for readers.

“I didn’t start my career knowing how to think in ways that empowered me. I had to come into it through transition, reflection, and empowered action,” she writes. “A lot of these exercises ask you to stretch to places and roles you have only encountered in your imagination. It will plant the seeds in your head that will help you cultivate your specific way of thinking.”

Some of the topics addressed include:

Influencing others to impact change    Managing opposition to diversity initiatives    Driving a sustainability leadership mindset    Viewing everyone as a mentor

Unique to this book is the workbook at the end of every chapter, which Seth aptly calls “Draft Blueprints” as they provide readers with their personal draft that they can implement using key points gleaned from Seth’s insights and real-life experiences, crafting a dynamic publication that the reader will find engaging and practical.

“SWE is honored to support Jayshree’s book and her commitment to helping young women entering the engineering field,” said Karen Hortin, executive direct and CEO of SWE. “The latest book serves as the perfect capstone course to her trilogy of invaluable teachings.”

Seth, a corporate innovator, and first-ever chief science advocate, is a prolific inventor, author, speaker and thought leader. She holds 80 patents and provides unique and practical perspectives on innovation, leadership, culture, and careers. Seth was featured in the 3M docuseries, “Not the Science Type,” which premiered during Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. She also received The Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award in 2020.

All proceeds go toward the Jayshree Seth Scholarship for Women of Color in STEM, administered by the Society of Women Engineers. The Scholarship is aimed at helping underrepresented minorities advance in STEM education and professionals related to engineering and technology. The scholarship has awarded $29,000 to five individuals since its inception in 2021.

CFG: UK MEDICAL JOURNAL EXPOSES HEALTH HARM FROM ONLINE GAMBLING

LONDON, Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — A new report published in The Lancet Public Health reveals the urgent need for regulatory reform as the global expansion of commercial gambling is causing widespread and underestimated harm to public health.

A new report in The Lancet Public Health reveals the need for gambling reform as expansion is harming public health.

“As a philanthropic gambling reform advocate, I started CFG as a US-facing site, knowing how disastrous the UK experience of online gambling has been,” said Derek Webb, founder and funder of the Campaign for Fairer Gambling (CFG). “This damning Lancet report confirms my worst fears: the financially-motivated trade bodies and their associated proponents have been responsible for generational harm to individuals.”

The Lancet Public Health Commission calls for regulatory reform to tackle the health impacts of the rapid global expansion of commercial gambling. Key findings include:

Gambling harms are far more substantial than previously understood, exacerbated by rapid global expansion and digital transformation of the gambling industry. Harms from gambling include physical and mental health problems, relationship breakdown, heightened risk of suicide and domestic violence, increased crime, loss of employment and financial losses. An estimated 80 million adults globally experience gambling disorder or problematic gambling. The harms of gambling are not evenly distributed; adolescents, children and those from disadvantaged socioeconomic groups are more at risk. Lower- and middle-income countries are less equipped to regulate the industry and deal with the harms it generates. Effective and well-resourced regulatory controls and international leadership are urgently needed to reduce the impact of commercial gambling on public health and protect progress on UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Stronger global regulatory controls are needed to reduce the impact of commercial gambling on worldwide health and wellbeing, according to the Lancet Public Health Commission.

The Commission brought together a multidisciplinary group of leading experts in gambling studies, public health, global health policy, risk control and regulatory policy, alongside contributors who have first-hand experience of gambling harms. After reviewing the literature, and figures generated from a systematic review and meta-analysis, the Commissioners concluded that “gambling poses a threat to public health, the control of which requires a substantial expansion and tightening of gambling industry regulation.”

“There is an urgent need for a US federal investigation into online gambling, which did not exist when the last gambling investigation occurred in 1999,” Webb concluded.

CFG is an independent gambling reform group with deep knowledge of the gambling sector’s business and lobbying practices in both the U.K. and the U.S. CFG is dedicated to promoting fairer gambling practices through research, advocacy, and reform. CFG exists to equip policymakers with real, reliable data to foster more informed, balanced debates and ultimately smarter gambling policy.
