BharatRohan collaborates with Obopay and Mastercard to incentivize 2 lakh farmers to use drone-based crop monitoring services

GURUGRAM, India, Nov. 28, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BharatRohan, a pioneer in precision agriculture, has launched the BharatRohan Pragati card in collaboration with Obopay and Mastercard to empower Indian farmers with a specialized multi wallet instrument that has both open loop and close loop capabilities. Designed to meet the unique needs of the Indian agricultural sector, this card enables access to targeted credit for farmers, streamlined purchases for essential inputs, seamless digital payments in offline areas, and incentives on the use of advanced technologies like drones for sustainable farming practices.

Through this collaboration, BharatRohan is also exploring joining Mastercard Community Pass digital platform to enable offtake solutions for the farmers, with the proceeds from such produce sale getting directly credited to the BharatRohan Pragati card. This will also enable access to supply chain financing solution for offtake transactions via the platform.

The Pragati card has an underlying prepaid wallet that enables farmers to transact seamlessly at any merchant outlet (physical or digital) that accepts Mastercard payments. The card will allow farmers to purchase essential agricultural inputs like seeds, biological inputs, fertilizers, pesticides, and services like drone-based crop monitoring and spraying all through a secure and easy-to-use platform. Through a straightforward, KYC-verified onboarding process, farmers will also have an option in future to gain access to season-specific loans ranging from INR 5,000 to INR 50,000, providing crucial funds for each stage of their crop cycle (subject to underwriting norms of the lender).

“BharatRohan is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture,” says Amandeep Panwar, CEO & Co-founder of BharatRohan. “Our Pragati card will reward farmers for adopting eco-conscious practices like Integrated Crop Management and using our CropAssure® service, which uses drones to monitor crops, providing insights that help farmers make data-driven decisions for sustainable farm management. By reducing chemical use, utilizing bio-fertilizers, and taking other sustainable actions, farmers will be able to earn redeemable points for future input costs, further encouraging sustainable practices.”

Transparency in financial transactions is another cornerstone of the BharatRohan Pragati card. Lenders will be able to control loan utilization for identified purposes, streamlining the underwriting process and building lender confidence. By offering this transparency, BharatRohan aims to simplify access to credit, allowing farmers to secure necessary funds faster while reducing risks for financial institutions. This feature supports BharatRohan’s broader goal of enhancing credit access for farmers by enabling a clear, traceable record of funds used for specific agricultural activities.

Additionally, this collaboration will open avenues for farmers to participate in carbon credit programs, enabling them to earn revenue for low methane emission techniques like Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in paddy cultivation. Farmers will be able to generate carbon credits, providing new income streams aligned with BharatRohan’s sustainability focus.

BharatRohan in partnership with Obopay, which is an RBI licensed entity, will ensure a smooth and reliable experience for the BharatRohan Pragati card users, from onboarding and KYC verification to transaction assistance and loan management support. This collaboration guarantees a high standard of customer service, enabling farmers to confidently handle their finances and reinvest in advanced farming practices.

Targeted to reach 500,000 farmers by 2027, the Pragati card supports India’s goal of doubling farmers’ income. It embodies the three collaborating entities’ shared vision of combining financial access, advanced technology, and sustainability incentives into a single solution.

APPOINTMENT OF A CIMA+ EXPERT TO REVIEW INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR HYDRAULIC TURBINES

Published

on

By

MONTRÉAL, Nov. 28, 2024 /CNW/ – CIMA+, one of Canada’s largest private consulting engineering firms, is proud to announce that one of its members will contribute to Canada’s international reputation in hydropower standardization, by becoming one of the few Canadian engineers to participate in a working group of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Yannick Méthot, engineer and consultant — turbine and generator at CIMA+, was recently appointed member of Maintenance Team 32 (MT32) of the IEC Technical Committee on Hydraulic Turbines (TC 4), a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the revision of the IEC 60193 standard on model testing of hydraulic turbines. This is a flagship industry standard, and one of the most important from TC 4. Yannick’s first participation in the working group, which brings together 30 members from 12 different countries, took place on November 21 and 22 in Graz, Austria. This appointment marks an important milestone in CIMA+’s contribution to international standards development.

“I feel privileged to be able to use my knowledge and expertise in standardization and hydropower to improve standards in this sector. It’s a great challenge, and also an honor for me to represent CIMA+ on the international scene, in a field where very few consulting engineering firms are generally represented,” said Yannick Méthot.

In fact, he becomes the second CIMA+ representative in this specific sector to sit on one of the IEC’s working groups, following Alexandre Trudel, a senior engineer who received the IEC 1906 award in 2022 and who has been acting as Co-Convenor of Working Group 37 (WG37) since 2018, a committee responsible for the development and publication of a new international standard on fatigue and cracking of hydraulic turbine runners. This working group comprises 26 members from 13 countries.

Through this commitment, CIMA+ makes a significant contribution to the visibility and international influence of Canadian expertise in standardization and hydropower, a priority shared by the Standards Council of Canada, of which Mr. Méthot and Mr. Trudel are also members.

The IEC was the first international standards organization to be created, in 1906. TC 4, for its part, was founded in 1911 and is one of the IEC’s oldest technical committees.

Statement from the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources on Site Decision for Canada’s Deep Geological Repository

Published

on

By

OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 28, 2024 /CNW/ – Canada is a world-class nuclear nation, and nuclear energy plays a pivotal role in the Canadian and global energy mix. The sector employs over 76,000 people in Canada, contributes 15 percent of our national electricity supply, and adds $17 billion to the economy every year. We have exported Canadian nuclear technology around the world, helping countries achieve energy security and avoiding over 30 million tonnes of pollution annually. In 2023, Canada was one of over 20 countries that signed a declaration at COP28 with the goal of tripling nuclear energy. Our continued leadership in nuclear energy is one of the key reasons Canada has been an energy superpower for decades, and will continue to be for generations to come.

The generation of non-emitting electricity is critically important to the fight against climate change and to building a competitive, prosperous economy. As we grow our electricity grids, protecting both the health and safety of Canadians and the environment is the government’s top priority. This includes having a thoughtful, responsible approach to the management of spent materials created in the production of nuclear energy.

In 2002, the Government of Canada passed the Nuclear Fuel Waste Act, which led to the establishment of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). The NWMO is an independent, not-for-profit organization tasked with developing and implementing Canada’s plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel.

Today, marking an important step in ensuring the ongoing safe and secure management of these nuclear by-products in Canada, the NWMO announced the selection of the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation-Ignace area as the site for Canada’s deep geological repository (DGR) for high-level nuclear by-products. This follows over a decade of engagement between the NWMO and potential host communities and votes by Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation (WLON) and the Township of Ignace, Ontario in favour of pursuing next steps to host the DGR.

This site selection represents progress in the NWMO’s implementation of the Adaptive Phased Management (APM) approach, which was chosen in 2007as the country’s plan for safe, long-term management. The APM approach includes implementing a DGR, located in an area with suitable geology and a willing and informed host community. This approach follows international best practices and is supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency as the safest and most sustainable method. Several other leading nuclear nations are taking the same approach, including Finland, Sweden, France and Switzerland.

Since 2010, the NMWO has been working to determine suitable areas and potential willing host communities. This process has involved careful scientific study, extensive engagement, and technical assessments to ensure an informed and transparent decision rooted in safety and consent.

Now that a site has been selected, the DGR project will undergo a comprehensive and world-class regulatory review process, which will include licensing under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and an integrated impact assessment under the Impact Assessment Act. These regulatory processes will provide further opportunities for public engagement and consultation and ensure the project proceeds in a manner that protects people and the environment.

I express my deep gratitude to the communities of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace, as well as the many other communities that were involved in the site selection process. This important decision was made possible because of the communities’ thoughtful leadership and active engagement over a decade of learning and considering opportunities for the future of the place they call home. I also commend the NWMO for its long, hard work and for the progress it has made in advancing a safe, responsible and informed plan.

Canadian nuclear energy will continue to power communities at home and allies around the world – providing Canadians jobs and opportunities across the domestic supply chain for generations. It will enable the development of a fully non-emitting grid in provinces across Canada, in accordance with the highest environmental protections and while supporting our economy and energy security. Today is an important milestone in ensuring this is indeed the case.
