MIPI/GMSL technology allows uncompressed, high frame rate input with speeds up to 8 Gbps (4 lanes). In addition, GMSL transmits data over distances of up to 15 meters. AFE-R360 also comes with 3 USB-C and 3 Ethernet ports, designed to accommodate LiDar, ToF, and traditional RGB cameras, satisfying the needs of both new and existing technology in robotics.
While MIPI/GMSL interfaces provide higher bandwidth and lower latency, they also add complexity to driver development compared to standardized UVC camera drivers.
