Exiger’s Technology Forecasts Merchandise, Textiles and Luxury Goods Most Vulnerable to Potential Strait of Hormuz Blockade

Jebel Ali Port Central for U.S.- Bound Shipments, Global Transshipping and Persian Gulf Oil

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Exiger, the market-leading supply chain and third-party risk AI company, today released proprietary research generated by its AI platform 1Exiger that identifies the sectors most vulnerable to a potential blockage in the Strait of Hormuz, which hosts the world’s twelfth busiest port, Jebel Ali. In the midst of continued Houthis attacks on vessels, worsening conflict in the Middle East and the recent U.S. strike on weapons storage facilities in Yemen, there is increasing concern about how a disruption to this trade route could impact the global economy. Exiger analyzed shipments traversing the Strait of Hormuz that use the Jebel Ali port. Key findings include:

Merchandise, textiles and luxury goods most at risk: 58 different industries may be impacted by the closure of, or reduced traffic through, the Strait of Hormuz. This includes various kinds of merchandise, textiles, and luxury goods, with companies in those industries accounting for 29% of shipments leaving Jebel Ali in 2024.Thousands of U.S.-bound shipments could be disrupted: In the last two years, 10% of identified outbound shipments leaving Jebel Ali were destined for Europe or North or South America. Roughly 17,000 of these shipments were headed to the U.S., carrying industrial goods and commodities ranging from turbojet engines to ethyl alcohol.Transportation of Persian Gulf oil could be interrupted: It is well known that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital sea lane for oil produced in the Persian Gulf — a commodity that continues to power much of the global economy.Transshipment delays could impact global companies: Less well known is the importance of the Strait of Hormuz for transshipping (i.e., the transfer of goods between ships). 350,000 shipments over the past two years involved transactions where the shipper and receiver were part of the same corporate family. Approximately 26,000 of these shipments were destined for Europe or North or South America, carrying goods ranging from cars to electric transformers and machinery parts.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the top strategic shipping straits in the world and the effects of a blockade would be compounded by existing challenges in the Suez Canal, which has seen trade volume drop by 70%+ in the past year. Exiger continues to monitor at-risk supply chains and is working closely with customers to proactively prepare for any potential disruptions.

MG Moving Teams Up to Titan Up in Tampa

Published

MG Moving CEO Steve Kuhn joins an industry specialist panel in 3-day Moving Titan Retreat amongst hundreds of the up-and-coming moving organization attendees located throughout the country.

STERLING, Va., Oct. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — “Moving Titan Retreats represent the future energy of the moving industry,” says MG Moving CEO Steve Kuhn. “Events like the one we just attended in Tampa will easily become more meaningful than the conferences in recent years sponsored by large associations that pay little or no attention to small and mid-sized moving companies looking to grow.” (www.mgmoving.com)

Wade Swikle, CEO of 2 College Brothers Franchising Systems, LLC, Co-Founder of Moving Titan Retreats, LLC, and Host of the longest running industry podcast, “Grow Your Moving Company”, was happy to see attendance for the October retreat double from the previous retreat and happy to see involvement from all sized companies. “We were pleased to have Steve as a panelist at the retreat and appreciate the efforts he has made to get involved with the future of the industry,” says Swikle. “I appreciate having him as an industry contact and appreciated him joining my podcast recently also.”

MG has made an effort to reach out to what it considers to be growing companies in the Southeast region since the organization plans to expand its offices between Florida and Virginia over the next two years. The company believes in transparency and knows that learning about the markets it is interested in will be easier by sharing information about itself and getting to know the moving companies active in those areas.

NexMuv CEO Wes Struebing also attended the October Moving Titan Retreat and is appreciative of the venue as a way for companies to actually begin working together, as NexMuv has with MG. “MG Moving has been a great client for us and we look forward to continuing to expand our working relationship,” says Struebing. “There is no substitute for spending time with clients and getting to know them better.”

John Hamilton, CEO of Brooks Moving and Hauling, had a great retreat as well and agrees that the bonds made at the event form lasting relationships that pay off in the long run.

“I have appreciated working with Steve and MG Moving and consider them a strategic partner in advancing our company,” says Hamilton. “The retreat was a great opportunity for attending companies to learn from each other and share best practices.”

MG Marketing Director Andy Lopez is extremely pleased with how involved the company is with events like the retreat and sees value in them that far outweigh the more traditional association events that he suggests have started to fragment. “The energy associated with the Moving Titans Retreat is a huge step up from anything we have been to before,” he says. “We do business with many of the groups we have met through the retreat, and based on how well this went I definitely see us growing that number of strategic partnerships in the future.”

CEO Kuhn is excited about the new MG Moving brand and the momentum that many of the relationships have gained that were formed at outreach events like the Moving Titan Retreat.

“We absolutely will continue to be active in almost all industry events and consider mentorship to be a part of our mission,” says Kuhn, “and I cannot tell you how much we appreciate all the companies we work and partner with. When our partners grow it means we are growing too.”
